We applaud Rep. Ross for voting today for the recovery package. The bill makes investments in renewable energy and energy efficiency that will create thousands of new high-paying jobs, save consumers money, improve our national security and protect the planet. It’s exactly what the country needs right now.

In an article by the Malvern Daily Record, Ross said that the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act would create 31,000 jobs in Arkansas, including 7,300 for the Fourth Congressional District. Moreover, billions would be invested in Arkansas, including roads, schools, energy, small business loans and health care over the next two years. There will be $500 million used to modernize the state’s roads, bridges and infrastructure. Funding would be provided to modernize at least 106 schools in the state to enhance science labs, classrooms and libraries. College educations are said to become more affordable for 44,000 families. There will be $400 tax credit for individuals making less than $75,000 per year and $800 for families making less than $150,000 and $250 for those receiving Social Security, disability or veteran’s benefits. It will offer an additional $100 per month in unemployment insurance to 185,000 Arkansas workers recently laid off in Arkansas.
